3 Youths Get 15 Years for Sex Assault on Girl

NEWARK, N.J. —
Three young men convicted in the sexual assault of a mentally retarded girl were sentenced Friday to up to 15 years in a youth correctional facility.
Superior Court Judge R. Benjamin Cohen showed some leniency in directing that the sentences be served in juvenile detention although the men were convicted as adults.
In imposing the sentences, Cohen cited the defendants’ youth--ages 22, 21 and 16--and the likelihood that they could be rehabilitated.
