Jalapenos Cool Alongside Hot Cocaine Haul
Associated Press
TECATE, Mexico —
Cans labeled as pickled jalapeno peppers stacked in a truck-trailer rig parked in the middle of this border town turned out to be hotter than they looked.
Police say they found more than 8 tons of cocaine stuffed inside hundreds of the six-pound cans. Mexican officials hailed the find as the largest cocaine seizure in the nation’s history.
The rig’s driver told agents the cocaine was packed into the cans at the Gulf Coast port of Veracruz. It was destined for the United States, according to Mexican officials.
