STANTON : City to Announce Interim Manager

Share

The City Council is scheduled tonight to announce the name of an interim city manager who will replace City Manager Terry Matz, whose last day of work is Thursday.

The council last week ranked five applicants and asked City Atty. Thomas W. Allen to negotiate a contract with the top candidate. According to two council members, the top applicant was hired by the city, and the name will be announced today.

In a related action tonight, the council will choose one of four search firms to find Matz’s permanent replacement. The search will take three or four months, according to the city.

Matz resigned last month to take a job as city manager in Agoura Hills, in Los Angeles County.

In other action, the council will review the city’s contract with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for the next fiscal year, which starts in July.

The city signed a five-year contract with the department in 1992 but must review the contract each year. The department provides the city with 11 deputies, according to Sheriff’s Capt. Robert Eason.

The present program guarantees the number of deputies on each shift and would cost about $3.7 million next year.
