CAP AND GOWN: Friday wasn’t the best day to sit in the sun decked out in the robes of academic ceremony. . . . But an upbeat crowd braved the oppressive heat to celebrate the inauguration of Blenda J. Wilson as the third president of Cal State Northridge (B1). Her speech had a cautious theme: the campus must become more efficient, producing better prepared, more competitive students with less state money.
