Fortunately, there are still a lot of loopholes. A student can still go to the financial aid office and lie his or her head off and not pay a single thing. They can say that they don’t make more than $7,500 a year and qualify for assistance. The school can’t ask for proof.

For students who are carrying about 14 units, it’s tough to pull all that money out of their pocket, especially if they have a car and have to pay rent, too. Some aren’t going to make it.
