FATAL ATTRACTION: The fiery crash of a vintage jet at the El Toro Air Show (A3) cast a chill over preparations for the Point Mugu Air Show, Southern California’s other big festival of flight. “We all feel a very profound loss when any member of the flying community is killed while performing,” Point Mugu spokeswoman Cora Scott said. The October show at Point Mugu attracts more than 200,000 visitors. Unlike El Toro, which has had three deaths in eight years, Point Mugu has never had a fatal crash in its 30-year history.
