FTC Settles With Radon Device Maker: The Federal Trade Commission said Berkeley-based Ion Systems Inc. has agreed to settle charges that it made false and unsubstantiated claims about its NO-RAD radon removal system. Radon, a radioactive gas, has been associated with health problems, including lung cancer. The FTC said that the NO-RAD system falsely claimed to remove up to 90% of radon-created substances in the home, to reduce risk of developing radon-induced lung cancer by 90% and that it was tested and proved effective by the Harvard University School of Public Health. A consent agreement does not constitute admission of guilt, the FTC said. Ion Systems said the product has been licensed to another company and has not been actively marketed for more than a year.
