World IN BRIEF : ECUADOR : 24 Die in Landslide at Mining Settlement

Thousands of tons of mud and rocks roared down a steep slope stripped of trees, burying a gold-mining settlement in southern Ecuador and killing at least 24 people, authorities said. Eighty people were missing. The remote settlement is 240 miles south of Quito.
