Re “Health Reform Plan May Exempt Doctors From Suits,” May 5:

I think it is about time the Clinton Administration get up off its knees and stop pampering the medical profession. For decades, the AMA has resisted all appeals for it to vigorously purge its ranks of the incompetents. If the AMA had conducted itself responsibly in this respect, it would not now have to pay the penalty for its intransigence in the form of costly medical malpractice insurance.

Clearly, if the Clinton Administration allows the AMA to get off the hook, then it should at least set up a review board in which the public is given majority representation that would be required, after due process, to publicly identify and to lift the license to practice of any medical doctor its findings show to be incompetent.
