WORLD IN BRIEF : SWEDEN : Police Bugged by Listening Device

Swedish police, embarrassed by a listening device that lay undiscovered for a year in their Stockholm headquarters, called for new powers to fight increasingly sophisticated criminals. Officials said that a police constable already suspected of links with the underworld was being questioned about the bug, which probably worked for about one week. But Swedish television said that the bugging incident raises questions about the reliability of Swedish police.
