Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON STATE : Students to Vote on Issue of Gay Leaders

The Bremerton High School student congress on a 49-47 vote has approved a measure that would bar openly gay teen-agers from serving in student government, but the principal says it is unlikely the new rule will ever take effect. The 1,350-member student body in Washington will vote on the issue Monday, requiring a two-thirds majority for approval. Even then, its chances of passing a review by the school administration are slim, said Principal Marilee Hansen.
