German Steel Strike Continues: Talks to end a strike in eastern Germany’s steel industry broke down and a spokesman for the powerful IG Metall union said the walkout probably would be extended. “The steel strike will continue,” Horst Wagner, IG Metall’s regional leader, told Reuters news agency. “The workers are outraged that no agreement has been reached.” IG Metall spokesman Michael Boehm said steel employers had been unwilling to move “even one inch” from a pilot agreement reached Friday between engineering employers and IG Metall in the state of Saxony.
