High-Rise Construction: Birtcher Construction Ltd. has been selected to build a $29-million, eight-story headquarters for the State Compensation Insurance Fund in Orange County.

It is the only high-rise now under construction in Orange County.

The building is to be constructed on East 4th Street in Santa Ana, next to the Santa Ana Freeway. The workers’ compensation fund will fill four floors, about a third of the structure’s 224,972 square feet. A multilevel parking garage is also being built.

The high-rise building was designed by the architectural firm of Langdon Wilson in Newport Beach.

Laguna Niguel-based Birtcher will head a construction team that includes electrical engineers Frederick Brown Associates in Newport Beach, mechanical engineers Tsuchiyama & Kaino in Irvine, structural engineers Brandow & Johnston Associates in Newport Beach, landscape designer Edaw Inc. in Irvine and interior designer Tsutsumida & Associates in Irvine.
