HAT CHECK: Prosecutor Bryan Brown once tried to convince a reluctant witness to cooperate by telling her: “We’re the guys in the white hats.” Brown, who ran the homicide unit and specialized in capital cases, shocked the office a year ago when he gave up his hat to enter private practice. . . . Now he’s coming back. “I gave it a year to see if I’d like it,” Brown says. “But it just doesn’t get more exciting than being a homicide prosecutor.”
