SANTA PAULA : Council Suspends Fee for Water Heaters

Share

Santa Paula residents will not have to pay a fee when they replace their water heaters for at least the next six months, the City Council decided in response to residents’ complaints.

The suspension of the $22.50 fee is likely to affect about 75 households and cost the city an estimated $1,700 during the trial program, said Stephen Stuart, the city’s building and safety director.

The council voted Monday to approve the program, which is limited to water-heater replacements at residences only. The fee remains in effect for initial installations and for commercial uses, and replacement water heaters still must be inspected by the city.

Waiving fees for water-heater installations was recommended by a committee of residents and city staff formed in the wake of residents’ claims of overregulation.
