GM Files Complaint Against Lopez: General Motors Corp. disclosed that it has filed a criminal complaint in Germany against its former purchasing chief, J. Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua, and others. “Confidential documents have been taken from us, and that’s against the law,” Louis Hughes, head of GM’s European operations, told a news conference after GM’s annual meeting in Oklahoma City. When Lopez left GM for Volkswagen in March, he took with him three mid-level GM executives and three GM buyers. In April, GM won a court injunction against VW “poaching” GM’s executives in Europe. Hughes did not identify the “others” named in the complaint. Hughes’ announcement overshadowed the first public appearance of new GM Chairman John Smale, who conducted the 4 1/2-hour shareholder meeting.
