NO EQUALITY FOR IRANIAN WOMEN
So Robin Wright suggests that the women of Iran now have equality with men (“Losing Faith,” April 25). She says that from the beginning of Islam, men and woman were equal; that during the period of the Shah, “women were objects of passion, and men acted superior. Now we’re equal again. The revolution brought that back.”
A nice-enough thought, but what does the Koran, which is not subject to amendment, have to say on the matter? A quote from the Fourth Sura: “Men are superior to woman on account of the qualities with which Allah has gifted one above the other.”
