Mid-May Vehicle Sales Rise: Domestic auto makers reported that sales of North American-built new cars and trucks were up a healthy 18.3% during mid-May. Analysts and dealers said the rebounding sales indicate that people with older cars are finally trading them in. General Motors reported a combined car and truck sales gain of 10%. Ford said its combined car and truck sales were up 16.1%. According to estimates by the trade journal Ward’s Automotive Reports, Chrysler car sales rose 50.8% and light truck sales rose 22.8%.
