LOS ANGELES : Council Orders Audit of Waste Water Program

Share

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday approved an independent audit of the city’s waste water program, which has been criticized as inefficient.

Councilman Joel Wachs, who called for an audit last fall, has criticized the $800,000-a-year program for wasting taxpayer money collected through water bills.

Wachs has questioned the program’s construction projects, staffing and bidding procedures and recommended an across-the-board 5% cut in the system’s budget. He has set up a whistle-blower hot line--(213) 621-2437--for those who wish to provide information for the auditors.

An audit team chosen by competitive bidding will be recommended to the council within the next three months.
