THOUSAND OAKS : Funds Allocated to 19 Public Service Groups

The Thousand Oaks City Council on Tuesday allocated more than $150,000 in federal and municipal funds to 19 organizations devoted to helping lower-income families.

Youth Employment Services, which helps teen-agers and young adults find jobs, received the largest grant--$21,000 from the city’s Social Services Endowment Fund, established in 1989 to fund local outreach groups.

The council also allocated $17,600 to Interface Children, Family Services of Ventura County, an umbrella service organization that offers counseling for teen-agers and for victims of rape or sexual abuse.

From the federal pool, big winners included Conejo Valley Senior Concerns, which received $8,000 for meals and $12,000 for other programs, and the Conejo Free Clinic, which will take in $10,000. Both groups were eligible for Community Development Block Grant funds, which come from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Also receiving large block grants were the food bank Manna ($8,000), Senior Nutrition ($10,000), Conejo Valley United Cerebral Palsy ($6,000), Catholic Charities ($8,000), Hospice of the Conejo ($8,000), Longterm Care Ombudsman ($8,000), Grey Law ($2,600), Senior Survivalmobile ($7,000), Child Abuse and Neglect Inc. ($8,000) and Lutheran Social Services ($8,000).
