ALR’s Stock Rises: The stock of personal computer maker Advanced Logic Research jumped 28% on Wednesday to close at $4.50 a share in the NASDAQ market.

“We don’t have an answer for that,” said Dave Kirkey, vice president of marketing, when asked the reason for the stock’s one-day rise.

He speculated that investors could be responding to an award announced at an afternoon banquet at the Comdex trade show in Atlanta. ALR’s new generation of personal computers, designed to take advantage of fast new computer graphics systems, was chosen best of show by Byte Magazine.

Kirkey said ALR’s products won over rival nominees NCR and Acer.

ALR, based in Irvine, has annual revenue of $206 million. The company supplies microcomputers for the Intel line.
