ROME — At least six people were killed when a huge explosion, apparently caused by a gas leak, destroyed a building in the center of Florence near Italy’s most famous museum, the Uffizi gallery, GR-1 state radio said today.
The dead included an 8-year-old girl and a 9-month-old baby. The report said about 25 people were injured by the blast, which shattered the glass front of the Uffizi gallery and damaged some of the paintings and statues inside.
