Women and Children First: Heroic Virtue

I’d like to address the disposability of the male gender which the writer, Michael Haederle, just touches on. We, as a community and as a society, must look at this timely issue of the men as the expendable sex.

Many believe that this is one reason men are struggling in the ‘90s to find their center of balance and claim their masculine spirit. That spirit, which in earlier times has guided men to become mentors and leaders in the community, is diminishing rapidly, and the erosion is partly due to this societal attitude that men are disposable.

We have also seen the growing attitude that male bashing is an acceptable form of humor and levity. This only generates more of a breakdown in the fabric of our society, where each new generation of men seems to carry the weight of these stereotypes.
