Santa Monica : Study Session on City Budget

Share

The budget for the coming fiscal year will be dissected by the City Council at a study session Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers.

This is the annual session at which the city’s elected officials query the staff on the intricacies and philosophy behind the newly completed budget.

The study session will be shown on the city’s cable station, Channel 16.

Public hearings on the proposed budget are scheduled for June 22.

The council has already levied two new taxes and raised a third to make up for a projected $11.2-million revenue shortfall for next fiscal year. A new 10% tax on water has been instituted, along with a 10% tax on parking in pay lots. The tax on other utilities was increased to 10%. Parking ticket fines were more than doubled.
