Pennsylvania Gov. Robert P. Casey’s condition was upgraded and he was moved out of an intensive care unit nearly a week after he underwent a heart-liver transplant, a hospital spokeswoman said. The 61-year-old governor’s condition was upgraded from serious to fair, and he was moved from Presbyterian University Hospital’s intensive-care unit to a cardiac unit, the spokeswoman said. Doctors said Casey needed the operation because he suffered from a rare disease called hereditary amyloidosis, a condition in which the liver produces abnormal protein, which in turn affects other organs.
