Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Search in Bombing Case Called Faulty
A defense lawyer in the World Trade Center bombing case in New York City alleged that the government used a faulty search warrant to illegally seize suspected bomb-making materials. Robert Precht, who represents key suspect Mohammad A. Salameh, said in court papers that the evidence should be excluded because an FBI agent failed to tell the court that Musab Yasin, a professor at Hudson County Community College, claimed ownership of the materials. The agent’s affidavit was used to obtain a search warrant from a judge on March 5. Salameh is one of six defendants named in the fatal Feb. 26 blast that killed six and injured more than 1,000.
