Explosion Rocks Gas Plant in Louisiana

WEST MONROE, La. —
An explosion rocked a Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. plant Thursday, sparking a fire with 250-foot-high flames and forcing evacuation of homes and businesses up to a mile away, authorities said.
Gas pipelines feeding the flames were shut off soon after the blast, and the fire was out in about an hour. No deaths or injuries were reported.
Heat from the fire melted vinyl siding on some of the closest houses, about a quarter-mile away, firefighters said.
