Iffy Weather Delays Shuttle Landing in Florida
Cloudy and unstable weather on Tuesday delayed the shuttle Endeavour’s return to Earth until today.
Mission Control decided it was too risky for Endeavour to land at the space center. Low clouds ruined the first attempt and, despite clearing skies, a fear of rain and storms thwarted the second.
Slightly better weather was expected today, and there is always the backup landing site at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. Endeavour is coming back this morning at one place or the other, Mission Control’s Curtis Brown told the crew.
The six astronauts began their satellite-retrieval and research mission June 21. They spent what was left of their day Tuesday photographing Earth and relaxing.
