Has the IOC Achieved Peace in Our Time?

Randy Harvey’s anemic editorial (June 28) asserting that Sen. Bill Bradley’s comments on China’s human rights abuses may offend the Chinese into boycotting the ’96 Atlanta Games smacks of Neville Chamberlain reincarnate.

The Chinese government is an oppressive regime. Period. If the IOC chooses to award China the 2000 Games in reaction to “external prodding” by the U.S., then perhaps it is the U.S. that should be threatening the IOC with a boycott. Can anyone imagine the European-led IOC staging a world event without the USA there to pay for it?
