SPORTSCOPE : Harbor College Offers Sailing Classes

The Harbor College extension program will offer a series of sailing classes.

Classes in celestial navigation will begin on Wednesday and continue through Aug. 11.

Classes in coastal navigation are scheduled to begin Thursday and continue through Aug. 5. The fee is $55 for celestial navigation and $52 for coastal navigation.

The El Camino College summer youth baseball program has three sessions remaining: Monday-Friday; July 12-17 and July 19-23.

The program includes individual videotaping, instruction, a weightlifting program and daily games. There will also be daily and weekly awards and a T-shirt for all participants.

The cost is $90 per session. El Camino Coach Nick Van Lue, assistants Ken Medlock and Bob Grant, and North Torrance High Coach Dan Campbell are scheduled to be camp instructors.

John Britton, who was a coach of the defunct L.A. Heat pro soccer team, will conduct a series of youth soccer camps.

The first camp is scheduled July 12-16 at Gardena High. The second is at Hermosa Valley School July 19-23. Two additional camps will be staged in August at La Marina South in Manhattan Beach.

The cost ranges from $75 to $100 and campers receive a soccer ball and T-shirt. There is a 10% discount for enrolling more than one family member per camp.

The Inglewood Recreation and Community Services Department will conduct a tennis league this summer for youths ages 8 through 18. The league will feature beginner, intermediate and advanced play. The cost is $8.
