PORT HUENEME : Base Environmental Material at Library

Share

Port Hueneme residents interested in learning more about the environmental investigation of contaminated soil at Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center can get information from their local library, Navy officials said.

Spokeswoman Linda Wadley said the base has begun storing technical reports, newspaper clippings and other reference documents about the environmental project at the Ray D. Prueter Library, 510 Park Ave.

The Navy has identified at least 19 locations at the Seabee base as possibly being contaminated. Some of the locations were used as dumps for oil waste and sewage; other areas have been contaminated by spills of acid, paint, solvents or grease.

The environmental investigation has been part of a nationwide review of military bases. Port Hueneme officials have said they will clean any contaminated sites shown to be a health hazard.
