Toyota Orders GM Engine Blocks: General Motors Corp.’s Powertrain Group will supply the iron engine blocks to Toyota Motor Manufacturing USA Inc. starting in mid-1994. About 180,000 of the 2.2-liter engine blocks will be made each year by GM at its Defiance, Ohio, foundry. They will be used in Toyota’s Camry car, which is assembled in Georgetown, Ky. The deal marks the first major contract for engine blocks involving GMPT’s Defiance foundry and Toyota, and the second with a major Japanese auto maker. Last August, GMPT said Nissan Motor Co. would buy about 10,000 engine blocks a month.
