Taiwan OKs British Aerospace Financing: The nation’s economics ministry and a Taipei banking group have agreed to finance the island nation’s planned joint venture with the airplane maker, a ministry spokesman said. The venture has been stalled for several months over the issue of financing. The banking consortium, led by state-owned Chiao Tung Bank, will provide $400 million in low-interest loans to an aircraft facility that will sell regional passenger jets made by the venture, the spokesman said. British Aerospace and Taiwan Aerospace Corp., in which the Taiwan government holds a minority stake, signed a contract in January to form a $370-million venture to build jets. The planes will be assembled in Britain and Taiwan.
