Mubarak Nominated for Third 6-Year Term

CAIRO —
President Hosni Mubarak was nominated by Egypt’s Parliament on Wednesday to run unopposed for a third six-year term despite opposition demands for more democracy.
The People’s Assembly voted 439 to 7 to nominate Mubarak as the sole candidate to put to the nation in a referendum in October, Speaker Fathi Sorour announced at the end of a debate broadcast live on state television.
