Slightly more than 82,000 homes were purchased in the six-county Southern California region in the first half of 1993, a drop of 11% from the same period last year, according to TRW REDI Property Data’s monthly housing report.

“Housing demand is now running about half the level recorded at the height of the market in 1988,” said Nima Nattagh, TRW REDI’s market analyst.

Concurrent with a decline in home purchases, there has been a shift of activity in favor of homes priced at less than $175,000. So far this year, more than 51% of transactions took place within that price range compared to 48% in the first six months of 1992.
