GM-Taiwan Pact Announced: General Motors Corp. said its Taiwan unit was expected to sign a letter of intent with the government of Taiwan to form an industrial alliance. “The letter of intent represents a joint effort between General Motors Corp. and the Ministry of Economic Affairs to strengthen the competitiveness of Taiwan’s automotive industry and GM through the formation of strategic alliances,” the announcement said. General Motors executive vice president for international operations Louis Hughes and Taiwan vice economics minister Yang Shih-Chien will sign the agreement, according to the announcement.
