Girl Held as a Symbol of Health Reform Dies
Associated Press
CLEVELAND — A 10-year-old girl who President Clinton described as a symbol of the need for health care reform has died.
Sarah Weber, who had cerebral palsy, died Friday at home, two days after a power outage from thunderstorms shut down her medical equipment and put her into a coma. Her funeral was Saturday. Clinton called the family two hours after her death.
The girl’s medical bills had exceeded the $2-million maximum of her family’s private insurance coverage. Her mother had quit her job so her daughter could qualify for Medicaid.
