LOCAL NOTES : UCI Basketball Schedule Includes Georgetown, Utah

The UC Irvine men’s basketball schedule for 1993-94 will include nonconference road games at Georgetown and Utah and a December home game against Iowa.

The Anteaters play Utah on Nov. 30 in Salt Lake City, and Georgetown on Dec. 18 at the Capital Centre in Landover, Md. Iowa will meet Irvine on Dec. 29 at the Bren Center.

The nonconference schedule also includes a home-and-home series with Cal State Northridge, a game at St. Mary’s, and home games against the University of San Diego and Salem State, an NCAA Division III power.

The Anteaters’ 18-game conference schedule, which opens Jan. 3 at Cal State Fullerton, includes seven of the first 10 games on the road.

The Big West tournament is scheduled for March 10-13 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. All 10 teams qualify for the conference tournament instead of the top eight as in the past.

For the first time in the event’s 10-year history, admission will be charged for courtside seating at the $150,000 Miller Lite Open pro beach volleyball tournament, Aug. 13-15 at the Seal Beach Pier.

Reserved tickets range from $50 to $10 each, depending on the proximity of the seats from center court. The Assn. of Volleyball Professionals is charging admission only for courtside seats at 16 of its 17 events this season. Bleacher seating is still free.

Starting times for most of the Mighty Ducks’ hockey games at Anaheim Arena will be 7:35 p.m. on weeknights and 7:05 p.m. on Sundays, the team announced Tuesday.

The Ducks also scheduled three 1:05 p.m. games: Nov. 26 against San Jose; Feb. 6 against Chicago and March 13 against Ottawa. The schedule also includes a 5:05 p.m. game April 2 against Toronto and a 6:05 p.m. start for a Feb. 11 match against the Kings. The Toronto game is the Ducks’ only home Saturday match of the season.

The Ducks’ preseason schedule and starting times will be released later.

Jeff McGraw of Fullerton shot a four-over-par 76 for a two-day total of 149 to win the boys’ 14-15 division at the Lee Hammil Memorial junior golf tournament at Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park.

Steve Wagner of Mission Viejo was second in the division with a 150 total.

Placentia’s John Lee shot a 150 to finish second, three strokes behind Sylmar’s Scott Heyn in the boys’ 16-17 division.

Irvine’s Steve Conway won the boys’ 11-and-under division with a two-day total of four-over-par 68.
