Microsoft Seeks Multimedia Technology: Eager to be in the vanguard of multimedia, Microsoft Corp. said it plans to buy certain technology developed by Continuum Productions Corp., a company owned by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. Continuum was founded in 1989 to create ways to digitally store and display video footage, photographic images and sound clips. Analysts said Microsoft wanted to avoid duplicating similar technology by purchasing certain “unannounced research and product development” but not Continuum’s licensing agreements. A committee of independent Continuum directors will determine the purchase price.
