Plea for Assisted Death

* My mother died 10 years ago after suffering the ravages of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) for seven years. That final year she had no quality of life left and would have been grateful if someone had helped her to die. Especially as a result of going through that time with her, I definitely believe there is a place for assisted death under controlled conditions.
