WORLD IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Parliament Elects New Prime Minister

Georgia’s Parliament elected a former Communist Party official to be prime minister, ending a two-week government crisis in the former Soviet republic. Otar Patsatsia, 64, replaced Tengiz Sigua, who had been prime minister for nine months. Sigua and his Cabinet resigned earlier this month when Parliament refused to approve the national budget.
