Transplant Patient, 5, Shows Improvement

PITTSBURGH, Pa. —
A 5-year-old girl whose body had begun to reject her transplanted small intestine was able to breathe on her own Monday.
Laura Davies of Manchester, Britain, was taken off a respirator Sunday and upgraded to critical but stable condition.
