USC’s loss to North Carolina won’t be counted if the Trojans are in the hunt for a Rose Bowl berth later this season.

Disneyland Pigskin Classic and Kickoff Classic games are specifically excluded from the complicated formula for selecting the Pac-10 Rose Bowl representative, if two or more teams finish the season tied in the loss and tie columns.

Tailbacks LaVale Woods and Conrad Coleman, defensive end Germaine Gray, offensive tackle Keith Siscel and linebacker Greg Tellam are sidelined because of injuries. Junior fullback Mike Jones, declared scholastically ineligible last spring, made up his deficiencies in summer school and practiced for the first time Tuesday.

Coach John Robinson watched tailbacks Scott Fields, David Dotson and Shawn Walters take handoffs from No. 3 quarterback Russ Bjorkman during practice, but afterward said he still hadn’t decided who will replace injured Dwight McFadden against Houston.
