MOVE OVER, DAD: Ross Perot was a big name in Orange County in 1992, but for the rest of the ‘90s, when people here talk about Perot, they may mean Junior . Ross Perot Jr., who learned business at his father’s knee, has opened an office of the Dallas-based Hillwood Development Corp. in Irvine. . . . Father and son also have the contract to build a futuristic toll road down the middle of the Santa Ana River. Perot Jr. will talk about some of these projects to the Building Industry Assn. on Sept. 13, at the Irvine Marriott.

WHERE’S FULLERTON? If Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda hasn’t yet made his hometown famous, maybe the U.S. Postal Service can. . . . Its new ad campaign shows a spaghetti-looking map of cities surrounding Los Angeles with: “Faster than you can find Fullerton, we can find out when your package got to Fullerton.” No harm meant. . . . In fact, says Fullerton Library director Al Milo: “I thought it was neat. Everybody here was real happy about it.”

GOLDEN WEST SIDE: At Thursday’s inauguration ceremonies for Golden West College President Philip Westin, he’ll have to forgo an urge to grab the baton when the music starts. He spent much of his career as a classical music conductor. . . . But he doesn’t promise to stay out of the orchestra pit. Says Westin: “We’re hoping to do ‘West Side Story’ on campus next spring, and I hope to be involved in that. It’s my favorite musical.”

DUKE’S DOMAIN: A cruise to Santa Catalina Island aboard the Wild Goose, John Wayne’s restored former yacht, is being offered by Round Table West, the literary luncheon folks, on Sept. 17, at $115 per person. . . . Pilar Wayne, the actor’s widow, says of Duke and the boat: “He liked to get away from the phone and just relax with his family.” She’ll attend a dockside reception at the Balboa Bay Club, but won’t be making the trip to Catalina. After spending so many years aboard the Wild Goose, she says, “I’d rather stay on firm land.”
