A Wake-Up Call
Today I read an article about a black high school student who was attending Ventura High School and a very good athlete. The article stated that he is transferring to a school out of state because he is unhappy with the racial prejudice that he has had to deal with in Ventura. This should be a wake-up call to all of us who live in this city. As a black male resident myself, I find it very sad that our youths are having to run and hide to escape this type of ignorance in an attempt to live a decent life.
This young man’s actions are an example of what is happening--young blacks are sick, tired and fed up with having to deal with such ignorance and are fighting back in whatever way they see fit.
Fortunately this particular youth, instead of choosing violence, chose to change locales. But what will happen when he finds out that people are the same no matter where you are, and Ruralville, U.S.A., is no different?
Our economy is in such despair that we need cooperation and willingness to work with one another in order to survive and exist. Have you thought that maybe just one of these young blacks could be an Einstein, Bell or Ford, if given encouragement, or could be the one to find the cure for AIDS?
Encourage them to become a part of society and to make a viable contribution.
