Killer of 10-Year-Old Girl Gets Death Sentence
A man who once claimed to have killed 72 people was sentenced to death Saturday for the rape and strangulation of a 10-year-old girl.
A Harrison County jury deliberated three hours before returning the verdict against Donald Leroy Evans, 36. Jurors had convicted him Thursday of the 1991 sexual battery and murder of Beatrice Louise Routh. They could have sentenced him to life in prison.
Evans, who is also charged with killing a woman in Florida, is already serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to federal kidnaping charges in the Routh case.
