WESTMINSTER : School District Will Sell Property to City
In order to raise about $2 million for badly needed maintenance projects, the Westminster School District Board of Trustees has decided to sell 3.8 acres of surplus property to the city.
Under an agreement approved by the board last week, the district will sell a portion of Willis Warner Middle School to the city redevelopment agency, said district spokeswoman Audrey Brown.
“Almost all of our campuses were built more than 20 years ago and they’re becoming rundown,” Brown said. “Our district master plan calls for a little over $30 million in improvements to all of our schools, so any money that we get is greatly needed.”
About half of the income from the sale will be used to renovate and reopen Neomia B. Willmore Elementary School in the fall of 1994. The remainder will pay for campus improvements districtwide, Brown said.
“It works out well for both parties,” said city Redevelopment Director Don Anderson. “The school district doesn’t need the acreage, so they can then sell it and get $2 million for use in their programs and facilities.”
Anderson said the city may develop the parcel as a park, construct a city building or develop a combination of the two. “We don’t have a specific use designated. Nothing’s been ruled out,” he said.
