WESTMINSTER : Stanley Pleads Innocent to Slayings
A 57-year-old Westminster man accused of killing his sister-in-law and one of her co-workers at a Fountain Valley embroidery shop in July pleaded innocent to murder charges Thursday in Municipal Court.
Douglas Frederick Stanley--bearded, shackled and wearing orange jail fatigues--stood quietly and turned his back toward television cameras as his public defender entered his plea before Judge Dan C. Dutcher.
Stanley is accused of fatally shooting his sister-in-law, Joyce Stanley, 52, and Terry Vasquez, 41, on July 8, as the two worked in the shop owned by Joyce Stanley and her husband, Charles.
A nationwide manhunt for Stanley after the shooting ended when Colorado state troopers arrested him July 11 in the small town of Parachute.
Stanley fought extradition to California for two months before a judge in Grand Junction approved the transfer Sept. 7.
Stanley’s next court appearance will be a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 15.
