JEWISH-PALESTINIAN: Palestinian-born Christian Joseph Haieck of Glendale will say a few words to the nearly 1,500 congregants expected to attend the 10 a.m. Yom Kippur service today at Temple Solael in West Hills following Rabbi Harold Caminker’s sermon.

Haieck edits The News Circle, a monthly magazine, and the Arab-American Almanac. Haieck is a Melkite Catholic, an Eastern Rite branch of churches loyal to the Pope but follow their own ancient liturgy and church traditions.

Caminker said his sermon and Haieck’s appearance are symbolic of the broad hopes of American Jews and Arabs that an accord signed by Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization will lead to peace in the region.
