Defensive tackle Larry Boyd sacked Oklahoma State’s Tone’ Jones in the end zone early in the fourth quarter Saturday night, giving Arizona State its last two points in a 12-10 nonconference victory.

Jones, a freshman who replaced Gary Porter, pivoted after taking a snap at his five-yard line and dropped back and to his right. Boyd made the tackle in the end zone.

Arizona clinched the victory when George Montgomery ran for 14 yards late in the game to help Arizona State (2-1) run down the clock.

Oklahoma State Coach Pat Jones was denied his 59th career victory. Jones, who got his first victory in a 45-3 rout of Arizona State in Sun Devil Stadium in 1984, is tied with Jim Lookabaugh as the winningest coach in school history.

Lawson Vaughn kicked a 35-yard field goal with 8:10 left in the third quarter, which gave Oklahoma State (2-1) a 10-7 lead. It was the Cowboys’ first second-half points this season.

Arizona State’s Jon Baker tied the score with a 49-yard field goal.
